Wedding preparations are fun. We all want our big day to be the most special time of our lives. With some creativity it’s easy to come up with some fun ideas for your wedding.
So, your wedding day is approaching and time is flying fast. With all the planning and prep activities; you’re not getting much time to dedicate to yourself. Let alone to get in shape for your wedding. But you feel the need to prepare for your big day; on a physical and emotional level.
Us ladies, have a tendency to get overwhelmed what with all the ideas and wishes we have for our wedding. So somewhere along the line we forget to relax, have fun and enjoy the ride.
Getting in shape for your wedding doesn’t have to be a tough and draining process. No matter what your physical appearance and condition. If you feel that you may be overweight and you’d like to go down a size (or a few), ask yourself; are you expectations realistic for that amount of time?
Don’t set goals that are going to drain all your energy by the time you get to the date of the wedding.
Here we’ve made a list of the fun, healthy and soothing activities you can do to get in shape for your wedding day. But when we say “get in shape”, we don’t just mean physically; but also emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Whatever you do, remember to have fun!
1. Zumba with the bridesmaids
Zumba is a great way to burn fat and calories. The creator of Zumba, Beto Perez AKA Mr Zumba, created this form of fitness for ladies that want to enjoy their workout. For those of us that put fun before strict fitness and weight loss plans, Zumba is a great option for getting in shape for your wedding day. Zumba classes are fun. Having fun, releases the happiness chemicals in your body called endorphins.
Yoga has gained popularity among masses. Although it is the most ancient form of wellness activity. Nowadays there are many different types of Yoga that differentiate from the original forms. Hatha yoga, Bikram Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Acro Yoga, Power Yoga, to name a few. If your primary goal is toning and weight loss, you’re best off with Power Yoga. But if you want to take the more mindful approach, go for Hatha or Ashtanga Yoga. This will allow you to connect with yourself and others on a spiritual level, as well as getting into shape. Acro Yoga is also gaining lots of popularity recently. Many couples are starting with Acro Yoga these days. Acro Yoga allows you learning to connect on a deeper level with each other.
3. Pact app
Pact app is really cool and it is sure a good motivator. With Pact app you can make bets with other members of the community about your diet and fitness goals. Those members that reach their goals win money and the ones that lose, they pay!
4. Wii fit
Nintendo has released new versions of Wii Fit; Wii Fit Plus and Wii Fit U. You can plan and track your calorie burn, choose the activities and games you want to play, and choose your own personal trainer. Wii fit U comes with the Fit Meter to track your progress even when you’re out of home. So if you and your sweety are gamers and couch potatoes, consider this option to get in shape and have fun at the same time.
Don’t want to get obsessed with the idea of getting in shape for your wedding? But you’d still like to look your best for the big day. You can do a Bootcamp or a form of fitness of very high intensity such as: HIIT, or T25, Insanity or another choice of Shaun T’s intense fitness programs. As much as we don’t encourage last minute fitness campaigns, these are good for getting some quick results and de-stressing. Remember to make sure you balance your diet, eat a little bit every 4 hours and drink plenty of water. You don’t want to get to your wedding day all exhausted!
6. Just dance
If you don’t want to commit to any specific routines, or you don’t need to lose weight, then just dance. Like we always say, dancing is good for you. It will help you feel good physically and mentally. And if you do it with your partner or with your friends, it’s even more fun. 7. Walk or run with your favorite tunes
For a simpler routine, you might enjoy early morning walks and runs along with some great workout music. Outdoors and physical activity help you clear your mind and find inner strength for the challenges ahead. They are a great kick off for the day ahead. Whereas good music can do wonders for the mind and the soul; inspire, motivate, empower and encourage.
8. Jump with Kangoo boots
Say what? Kangoo boots? Yes, you heard it right, these boots turn you into a kangaroo. Just kidding. Training with Kangoo boots is the closest you can get to experience the life of a kangaroo. No, seriously now. If you want to try Kangoo boots training, get ready for some serious muscle burning and cardio exercise. Another thing that Kangoo boots will give you; destress and gain the right posture for walking down the aisle.
9. Go on adventures
If you’re more of an adventure type and you almost always avoid routines in your life; consider weekly outdoor adventures. You can do hiking, climbing or extreme sports. Try something that you haven’t tried yet (if you’re already and adrenalin freak like some of us). But set your goal to go on an adventure every week before your wedding day. Not only will you get into shape physically, but you will also have so much to talk about and to share your experiences with everyone else.
10. Play with kids
Even though you still may not have kids, there are other people’s kids around you. Your family, friends or neighbors will love you for spending time with their children and playing their favorite games. You can play common games such as Hide and Seek, Freeze, Treasure Hunt, Twister or get creative and invent your own. Make it your goal to have fun and be a child for that set time. Kids are great teachers, especially when it comes to having fun!
And a final word from us. Avoid obsessive routines that will turn you into a miserable and stressed out future bride. Who says you have to be all slim and toned? A beautiful woman is a woman that feels good in her own body. If you love your own body just the way it is, you will look beautiful in that gorgeous white dress.

I recently had the privilege to catch up with an amazing newlywed couple. I did their first dance choreography for their wedding reception in 2015. I couldn’t help but ask them about their experience working with yours truly.

1. Have you ever danced before your first dance?
David: Yes, we’ve danced. But we have different answers to that question. Emily and I are pretty good dancers in our own mind. To the regular world we are really not.
Emily: We like to have fun, typically that means dancing in the car and stuff like that, nothing so formal, as the first dance.
David: Like dance competitions!
2. What do you love about dance?
David: Dancing is fun, music is great. It makes everyone happy. It gets people moving, it’s really good. To be able to dance and move, it’s a joyous time. Even if you’re dancing with your loved one, your family members, and stuff like that. It makes everyone laugh and have fun. Dancing is like a different way of life.
Emily: We like to dance in ways that are fun. We’re not the type of people that are going to memorize moves and be super strict on it. We like to joke around and have fun.
3. How did you feel after your first dance?
David: Our first dance, was our first choreographed dance. We felt it went really well. Emily obviously dominated in her wedding dress, she was able to twirl and do a whole bunch of that stuff. Overall, we thought that the first dance went well.
Emily: It was honestly one of the highlights of the wedding. Even the night before we were so excited, we were like oh my God nobody knows we’re doing this dance. We couldn’t wait to see the look on people’s faces, it was awesome. The slower first dance was after the fast dance. You taught us some great moves, but then we also went a little rogue. We did a combination of both, and we did a lot of basic spinning and stuff. We did the dip, we did the spins; it was good because we felt we learned a lot of great moves. But we felt like it had almost got in our head and we didn’t want it to seem forced. So we did the moves and I tried to follow Dave’s lead, we probably didn’t do it exactly as we did it with you. But we picked up and did some cool things that looked like a nice dance.
Carl: Basically you did what felt right, that’s good. Because you know if you force it, it is too much, but if you do it naturally it’s good. That was my goal, to really make you feel comfortable.
Emily: Yes that was our goal too. We’ve been to a lot of weddings, seen other people’s first dance. Often, you could actually see the bride instructing the groom. We didn’t want that, we wanted to know how to dance well together. Do some dips and spins, and then just dance, and be in the moment.
4. What dance moves did you learn?
Emily: What was that one where we kicked each others foot and danced around?
David: The kid and play. Great move! Also some of the great moves you taught us, from one of Will Smith’s movie, Hitch. It’s one of my favorite movies. Then some swirls and that.
Emily: To be honest, we didn’t know how to slow dance together, to have it look good and nice. And now we actually know how to dip and spin and slow dance.
5. Did the dance lessons help you connect more as a couple?
David: We never really had issues dancing together, we’ve always done it. But the lessons were great, they were a lot of fun. We love your hip hop class. When we decided to get married we knew we wanted to get in contact with you. Your classes are so much fun, and you break it down so it’s very easy. For us, it was like an extended class with you to come up with some dance moves. You do a great job at listening to what people are looking for with their dance moves, and tailoring it to what fits them.
Emily: Yes, you really listened to what we wanted, and helped us do that for the most important day of our life, which is great. I don’t feel like it necessarily brought us closer, but we spent time practicing and we had an awesome time. Those truly were the best parts of the day.
Carl: It seems that it did bring you closer in a way, not verbally, although it is hard to tell because you guys already are so close.
David: Yes, it was great practicing together for our first dance. But also, we’re always doing stuff together, hanging out with each other, and that was an extension to that. We both went to your classes together even before, so it was definitely an extension to that as well. We’ve actually really missed it, you need to come over in our direction again.
Carl: You know what, I might come in that direction. I’ll keep you posted!
6. What was the wedding dance like, did everyone enjoy it?
Emily: Yes, people loved it! We had some work friends because we work at the same company. By the time we got back to work, it had spread like fire. Everyone was like; “we heard you did some great dance moves”
David: The president of the company came up to me all serious and he said; “hey, really nice dancing!” I said how did you get that, and he was like, man it’s on YouTube.
Emily: The DJ posted the video, it had almost 12,000 views!
7. What do you think is more important, to get the dance steps right or to have fun?
David: You’ve got to have fun. You can get all the dance moves right, but if it seems awkward, it’s a terrible look.
Emily: Yes, we figured out the moves that we thought we could do as we would be really nervous on the day and still have fun at the same time. We didn’t want to try and perfect a move and have it be awkward
8. What do you like about Boston Mobile Dance Studio?
Emily: Everything. Coming to you was the only thing we wanted.
David: The first and only option. We love the classes; Hip Hop, Party Dance 101, Choreography classes, we love all of that. As a brother, I’m supposed to have rhythm, and I really don’t. What I love about your classes, whether you have rhythm or you don’t; the way you include everybody and the way you explain things. It makes it fun. Although I wish you didn’t record everything! But even though you do, it still looks pretty cool, because you have all different levels. If it was a Hip Hop class with competition, like who wants to be the next dancer, it would be intimidating. You wouldn’t have as many people. You’re a cool dude and your class feels inclusive for everyone and it’s still a lot of fun.
Emily: There were people at different levels, I remember seeing some amazing dancers, but I didn’t feel nervous or awkward. My feet weren’t doing any of the right things, I was just jumping along and waiting to get back in step with people. Nobody felt awkward or out of place, it made everyone feel well and included.
Carl: That’s good because that’s my goal. That’s social dancing.
David: When we lived in Boston, we had been taking some classes with other people, but obviously, you were the one. We were like; this is the coolest class 100 per cent.
9. Do you have a message for other couples in terms of dance and creativity?
Emily: It’s definitely something to seriously think about. It was honestly one of the highlights of one of the most important days of our lives. It really helped set the tone of the wedding. It’s definitely something we would recommend.
David: Whether you’re a good or a bad dancer, working with you guys was the best decision we made. We give you the music, the theme and the overall feeling of what we want. You guys help at it, but you’re not pushy in saying that’s not the right step. If we do something different you add to it after, you allow people to be who they actually are, without forcing too much. That’s a really good feeling.
Emily: And also whatever level you’re at. You took us and whatever level we’re at, you made us look good with the moves we like and with the vibe we wanted.
Carl: That’s great, because really that’s what my goal is. To have fun, even sticking your tongue out, acting crazy, and just enjoying it. A lot of professional dancers can do the choreography really well, but they can’t dance to have the time of their life. Whatever I do, I want to capture that spirit. It’s all about social dance, fun, engaging people, and how people feel from the energy you bring to the table. Whether it’s a first dance, a flash mob or whatever. But whatever you bring, people feel good about it at the end of the day.
